How Can I Help?

home :: safety hope opportunity :: janelle

A veteran of Arizona’s foster care system, Bernice decided she’d had enough and went AWOL for quite some time. With limited life skills and resources, she struggled to live on her own…she also gave birth to a little boy. At 17, Bernice was found and placed in a shelter. Her little one was taken into custody of child protective services.

To help Bernice get back on track, she was referred to Florence Crittenton’s Independent Living Program where she began working with a Parent Aid and attended drug education classes to help her move toward reunification with her son. With the help of her case manager, Bernice re-enrolled in high school, got a job, opened a savings account, and was eventually reunited with her son. She is an extremely attentive, loving and patient mother. She has come to terms with the poor choices she made in the past and has made a commitment to herself, and to her son, that she will work hard to provide a healthy and safe environment for them both.
